WHAT HAPPENED: Andrew Brietbart posted a criticism of the NAACP on BigGovernment.com as a response to the NAACP’s claim that the Tea Party has a racist problem. The post included a video of Shirley Sherrod describing how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. Indeed, the tale is received by the NAACP audience with nodding approval and murmurs of recognition and agreement to which Brietbart says “Hardly the behavior of the group now holding itself up as the supreme judge of another groups’ racial tolerance”. The video shows Sherrod say that such race warfare is wrong and instead encourages class warfare. A day later the Obama Administration harassed Shirley into resigning due to the story she told of her past racism, only to later have it revealed that the full context of the video shows that Sherrod further expanded on her comments about race warfare being wrong to make clear that the story as an example of a mistake that she learned from.
Brietbart talked about it to CNN:
WHAT THE LEFT WANTS YOU TO THINK HAPPENED: the talking points parrotted word for word in leftist circles is that Fox News and Andrew Brietbart deliberately edited the clip to make a false attack of racism and get Shirley Sherrod fired. They ignore that the original post was about the NAACP and made completely legitimate points to instead blame Breitbart and Fox News for the failing of the Obama Whitehouse which took her job away from her without doing any research on the instance (and later apologizing and offering her another job).
3 seconds of thought on this bring obvious questions such as “how could Fox News be responsible for an administration hostile to them firing one of their employees?” but thought has never been the lefts strongpoint. Feelings are. and hating conservatives is a feeling that the left does best.
Rachel Maddow showed clips from three of Fox’s opinion shows, yet never revealed that was the case as she attacked “Fox News” for irresponsible reporting on the issue. Nevermind that the news side of the network did not call for her firing or report dishonestly on the subject and usual target Glenn Beck defended Sherrod as seen below:
Oh, and it should probably be noted that…
The first airing of the clip on FNC didn’t come until after Sherrod had already resigned.
The hate and smears against Fox and Breitbart march on, however…
The following links are on todays front page of Reddit.com (a more leftist and nerdier version of Digg):
Who here thinks FOX News should loose their White House press corp credentials for running a fake news story in an attempt to sabotage the Obama administration? (for the 3rd time now) There needs to be a consequence for their actions. Maybe we can get a petition. (salon.com)
Fox News and Breitbart edited a video to trick people into thinking a USDA worker and the NAACP is racist. This was a blatant lie which got the worker fired. White House apologizes, but shouldn’t Fox News and Breitbart get sued for libel? (theatlantic.com)
Of course, this is all a desperate reply from the left to distract from the long history of racist out-of-contexting that has been built up from MSNBC egregiously cutting off a black protester’s head in a photograph of a man carrying a gun to a rally in order to discuss that anti-black racism was rearing its head in America to just last week CNN’s weekend show Reliable Sources running a clip of Rush Limbaugh that was cropped to remove it’s context to which guest Roger Simon of Politico.com accused Limbaugh of racism. The buzz around the right wing blogs screaming over “CNN cropping audio to smear Rush Limbaugh” was non-existent. Instead, a few blogs – namely MRC’s Newsbusters.org called out the smear and moved on. Roger Simons claim of course makes no sense whatsoever other than “Limbaugh accused other people of racism so that makes him racist” which was the exact same thesis of the attacks and claims of racism against Limbaughs statement in 2003 that the media overhyped a football player because they wanted “a black quarterback to do well”.
Here’s a full runthrough of that one:
Howard Kurtz responded to the Newsbusters criticsm this week by standing by the editing choice, noting that he challenged Roger Simon on the accusation of racism and was open to the possibility that he unfairly aired the cropped quote which is why he did the follow up that gave the other side.
